Prof. Dr. Bujar Kapexhiu

Born on March 22, 1944 in Tirana. He is a well-known Albanian director, screenwriter, cartoonist, and actor. Kapexhiu studied acting at the gymnasium near the National Theater, as well as postgraduate studies in directing. In 1968 he started working as a director at the Tirana Variety Theater where he wrote many sketches, parodies, and couplets and also made cartoons for the press. After a 2-year period of leaving Tirana, due to "liberal and modernist performances" at the 11th ART Song Festival where he was the author of a text and lecturer, he returned in 1975 as a director and painter of the film newly created drawing. sector near Kinostudios “Shqipëria e re”. The film "Zhgarravinat" (1977) where Kapexhiu created the drawings, screenplay, and direction was awarded the First Prize of the III Balkan Film Festival organized in Istanbul, Turkey, 1979; with the Cup of the III Albanian Film Festival, 21-28 April 1979 and with the award in Naples, Italy in 1984. In 1980 he attended the branch of fine arts for graphics. In 1985 he made about 20 cartoons, most of which are screenwriter or co-screenwriter, director and painter; among them stands out Pipiruku, the beloved child character created by him. "Pipiruku expects 2 friends" was awarded the second prize at the VI Documentary and Cartoon Film Festival. After ’85 he devoted himself to the comedy genre being distinguished for his outstanding individuality. In a very short time he shot four feature films: "Twin Carpets", 1986, "Violin Wires", 1987, "Benches in the Park", 1988, "Even So, So So", 1989. In the 1990s -1992 he was in charge of the cartoon film sector in Kinostudio, while in the years 1993-1996 he was the Rector of the "Academy of Arts". In the period 1997 - 2017 he became a freelancer, director of the art studio "Visual Art Today", where he continues today. He is currently a lecturer at the European University of Tirana.
