Internationalization of HEIs in the Balkan region so far has had a significant effect in modernizing the curriculum and exposure to different teaching and learning methodologies providing a better understanding of the role of education in the XXI century. However, because the number of students and staff involved in these projects was limited, the impact has been asymmetric where some departments have reaped the benefits of these projects more than others. Thus, approaching internationalization more holistically, by embedding and strengthening “internationalization at home”, is vital. The project aims to strengthen international, intercultural, and global dimensions via Internalization at Home (IaH) implementation at partner HEIs to enhance the quality of education and to make a meaningful contribution to society.
Objectives of the project
- To formulate a coherent and detailed IaH concept that could be mainstreamed into the partner HEIs Roadmaps following their specific exigencies.
- To level up the scope and viability of IaH activities implemented in partner HEIs.
- To train an expert pool capable of developing and integrating IaH into the HEI environment.
- To launch an online platform as a tool for IaH implementation.
- To establish/modernize the existing structure/entities responsible for IaH at HEIs.
Expected Results and Outcomes
- The project leverages existing initiatives rather than starting from scratch.
- In the first year, an analysis will be conducted on previous international projects implemented in each participating country, aiming to:
- Provide an overview of internationalization mechanisms.
- Identify gaps for systematic improvement.
- This analysis will lay the groundwork for formulating a coherent and unified concept of Internationalization at Home (IaH) across all participating countries.
- The unified concept will enhance the understanding and practical application of IaH.
- An online platform will be launched to support partners, facilitating e-learning, training monitoring, and document translation.
Project Activities
- Create the project’s standardised documentation templates for recording knowledge capital
- Perform a literature review on conducting such analysis
- Collect cases of knowledge capital.
- Create knowledge capital repository.
- Identify criteria to be used for prioritisation internationalisation areas.
- Developing training content
- Preparing short training opportunities
- Training key staff members
- Creation of Moodle structures for the delivery of e-learning.
